What’s Inside This Edition
As our Chair, Tom Dickinson, states:
“Education creates connection. By helping people understand grasslands—from their role in providing habitats and sustaining clean air and water, to the complex ecological processes that create and maintain these precious ecosystems—we foster deeper appreciation and care. As understanding grows, so too does our collective commitment to protecting these irreplaceable landscapes.”
Each year, our goal is to offer a window into BC’s essential grassland ecosystems, connecting readers with conservation efforts, scientific insights, and compelling stories from these special landscapes that comprise less than 1% of our province yet support 30% of BC’s species at risk.
Our latest magazine offers a rich tapestry of content highlighting the importance of education in grassland conservation:
- Stunning photography showcasing BC’s precious grassland ecosystems
- Updates on innovative grassland education initiatives throughout the province
- Features on outstanding conservation work by organizations across Canada
- On-the-ground reporting about BC’s boreal future
- Scientific insights about the ecological role of big sagebrush in these delicate ecosystems
GCC members will automatically receive their copies in the mail in the coming weeks. Additionally, free copies will be available at our upcoming events and outreach activities throughout the province.
Educational Resources and Collaboration
The 2025 edition is designed to serve as a resource for educators at all levels of education. We welcome collaboration opportunities with schools, universities, and community groups interested in:
- Developing custom grassland education programming
- Arranging speakers for events or classrooms
- Creating specialized field experiences in BC’s grasslands
